Job Summary
The L2 Systems Support Engineer is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting the physical and virtual systems infrastructure within the Microsoft Data Center.
This role combines hands-on hardware/infrastructure management with advanced OS,hypervisor, and storage system support. The engineer will ensure high availability, adhere to strict SLA targets, and handle escalation points from L1 technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- OS & Hypervisor Administration: Assist with provisioning, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows Server, Hyper-V, and Linux environments.
- Storage & Virtualization Management: Monitor, troubleshoot, and perform basic zoning/allocation on SAN/NAS storage arrays and Azure-integrated hybrid storage.
- Incident & Problem Management: Diagnose and resolve medium-to-complex server hardware, operating system, and virtualization layer failures.
- Data Center Automation & Monitoring: Monitor system health using tools like System Center (SCOM) or Azure Monitor; identify and resolve performance bottlenecks (CPU, memory, disk I/O).
- Backup & Disaster Recovery: Manage, verify, and troubleshoot system backups and replication jobs, initiating recovery procedures when required.
- Racking & Stacking: Install, mount, and secure physical blade servers, storage shelves, and enclosure chassis in compliance with Microsoft Data Center structured cabling standards.
- Physical Diagnostics ("Smart Hands"): Perform component-level replacements(swapping failed RAM, hot-swappable hard drives, power supply units (PSUs), and cooling fans).
- Physical Cabling & Labeling: Route copper (Cat6) and fiber optic (single-mode/multi-mode) patch cords through cable managers; perform fiber cleaning and scoping.
- Media Handling & Disposal: Follow strict Microsoft data-bearing media (HDD/SSD) handling, declassification, and shredding procedures.
